Antalya was once the ancient city of Attaleia. Now it is the largest resort city on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. The city is modern and thriving yet it still has an attractive historic quarter surrounded by old city walls which is worth exploring whilst on a holiday in Antalya. The resort is set high on cliffs that overlook the sea. Its backdrop is impressive mountains and there is a booming beach resort on the city’s outskirts. Antalya’s old town has been renovated and many of the old wooden Ottoman mansions have been restored and turned into smart boutique hotels. Cars are banned from the narrow streets.
