California is a large state with plenty to offer. Make sure you devote enough holiday time to enjoy it to the max. Likely you’ll arrive in Los Angeles and stay there for a few days. The city has undergone a renaissance recently and the downtown core is starting to bustle with life again with the addition of the stunning Disney Hall (designed by architect Frank Gehry) and Staples Center complex. New eateries and hotels have popped up too so it now attracts a new generation of visitors. While in L.A., experience a bit of Hollywood glamour and take a Warner Bros. Studio tour. You must, of course, do all those touristy things like visit Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, stroll along Venice Beach and look at the sidewalk stars of the stars. Don’t miss the J. Paul Getty Museum or Disneyland, outside of the city in Anaheim.
Further up the Pacific coast of California, you’ll reach wine country. This is the ultimate place to enjoy food and wine at a leisurely pace. Take a tour of the wineries and spend the night at an on-site bed and breakfast. The summer and fall are especially great seasons to visit, but you can sip excellent wines any time of year.
If you continue north, you will arrive in San Francisco, a city that is famous for its Golden Gate Bridge, liberal politics, top-notch museums and restaurants. Head to fisherman’s wharf for fabulous chowder served in a bread bowl, wonderfully fresh crab and sour dough sandwiches.
California gave birth to the idea of local cuisine and it executes it very well with flavourful, fresh ingredients.
The beaches of California are legendary, inspiring songs by the likes of The Beach Boys and influencing entire generations with its fashion and culture.
