Fraser Island is off Australia’s Queensland coast, about 180 miles north of Brisbane. It is the largest sand island in the world. It's also a place of breathtaking beauty and has been a World Heritage Site since 1992 which means that the island's dunes, rainforest and spectacular freshwater lakes are all protected. Some dunes are as high as 240 metres/ 787 feet. Accommodation for holidays on Fraser Island is limited and advance booking is essential.

All travellers need a visa to enter Australia. This is where Chelsea Tractors should come for a real holiday – Fraser Island is strictly four wheel drive terrain. If you plan to take a four wheel drive onto Fraser Island, you’ll need to obtain a permit first. Penalties apply for entering without a permit.
Fraser island has a subtropical climate. Coastal temperatures range from22C°/72°F to 28C°/82°F in December and 14°C/57°F to 21°C/70°F in July. Rainfall varies. January to March are the wettest months.
It takes around 24 hours to fly from London to Brisbane, the nearest international airport. You can catch a ferry to Fraser Island from Hervey Bay.
You can hire four wheel drive vehicles, but given the terrain and the unusualenvironment, visitors usually sign up for a 4WD tour instead.
