Back in 1835, the Galapagos Islands inspired Charles Darwin to formulate his theory of evolution by natural selection. Today these unique islands offer some of the world’s most fascinating wildlife. The islands are rocky, pretty flat and 600 miles/965 kms off the Pacific coast of Ecuador. Only four of the fifteen largest islands are inhabited and accommodation for most holidays to the Galapagos is on pre-booked luxury motor cruisers. The largest town is on Santa Cruz. Holidays to the Galapagos Islands centre round sailing to the islands to watch the wildlife: astonishing birds, lizards, marine iguanas, seals and giant tortoises which can live up to one hundred and fifty years. Most of the wildlife here has no natural predator on the islands and you can get extremely close to them.
