Skiathos first gained its reputation for hedonism with its tourist development in the 1960s. Nowadays increasing numbers of us enjoy holidays in Skiathos. The island is part of the Sporades group which are characterized by pine trees, mountains and rivers, and are very close to the Greek mainland. Skiathos town is built on two small hills and is dotted with red-tiled roofs and a delightful maze of cobbled streets. There’s a striking mix of smart boutiques, aromatic bakeries and shops selling genuine folk artifacts. You’ll find a scattering of atmospheric churches and monasteries across the island as well as delightful quiet inlets on a holiday in Skiathos. All of which reflect the simplicity of local island life.
