Ramadan is when Islamic Tunisians fast from sunrise to sunset. Many shops, bars and cafés are closed during the day and although life in the tourist areas continues much as normal, there is a noticeably different atmosphere. The dates are different every year. Check them with your Travel Counsellor.
It’s important to dress with respect for local customs when away from the beaches and hotels.
Haggling is the norm in the souks and some shops. Take your time and aim to pay around a third of the starting price. Tipping is common practice.
Northern Tunisia has a typical Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters from December to March. The sun shines for eight hours a day on average in winter and twelve in the summer. In August average temperatures on the coast can reach31°C/89°F. It can be very cold at night if you are in the desert
