Zante is also known as Zakynthos. It is one of the more off the beaten track Greek island holiday destinations and has sympathetically sized resorts. There is little development outside the resorts. Holidays in Zante offer three distinct areas: a mountainous northwest, a fertile central plain and the eastern and southeastern resort coasts. Vassilikos peninsula in the south of the island has some of the best countryside and beaches, including Yerakas which is a lovely crescent of golden sand. Most of the island roads are in good condition and touring by car or moped is a pleasure. Zante is the southernmost island of the Ionian group, off the west coast of mainland Greece

Laganas on Laganas bay in the south is Zante’s party resort. Best avoided if you want peace and early nights. However, party animals might want to avoid the quieter resorts north and south of Zante Town.
