Cyprus is a full member of the European Union. EU citizens do not need a visa to stay for up to three months. Cyprus has been effectively divided since 1974 with Greek Cypriots in the southern two-thirds of the island and Turkish Cypriots in the north, which in 1983 declared itself to be the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Cyprus enjoys 340 days of sunshine every year. Summers are hot and dry (32°C/90°F on the coast and up to 38°C/100°F in Nicosia) with low humidity. Winters are mild with average temperatures of 17°C/63°F in January and February when there’s skiing in the mountains. There is some rainfall December-February.
Flights to Cyprus take approx four hours from the UK
Driving is on the left-hand side of the road. Road signs are in Greek and English (Turkish and English in the North). Roads are good but driving standards can be poor.
