It's Nice To Meet You

Hello, my name is Angela, your personal Travel Counsellor. I am looking forward to helping you discover new places and create new holiday memories.

I love talking to family and friends about their holidays and, with over 17 years experience in the industry, I am delighted to have joined Travel Counsellors.

As a family with my husband and two children, who have now grown up, we have had fun on camping holidays in France, been skiing in Europe and Canada, enjoyed the theme parks in Orlando and visiting Miami and the Florida Keys. My own travels have taken me to many wonderful destinations, including Hong Kong, Australia, The Canaries, Turkey, Spain and various European countries.
Most memorable was my own wedding in the beautiful islands of the Seychelles.

Some highlights of my holidays have included snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef; flying in a bi-plane over Key West, surfing in Barbados and swimming with dolphins in Discovery Cove, Orlando.
On my last holiday to the Caribbean, I fell in love with Barbados, which may have been as a result of sitting on the beach in the evening, watching turtles lay their eggs, or perhaps it was simply meeting the island’s friendly people and enjoying the fabulous cocktails!

Working from my home in Kenilworth, Warwickshire you'll be pleased to know that I will personally look after all your holiday requirements, from initial enquiry, through to your return home. Excellent, award-winning technology provides me with a wide variety of airlines and travel suppliers. I also have access to the knowledge and recommendations of my many friends and colleagues at Travel Counsellors – there are over 1600 of us worldwide! This enables me to provide you with a huge range of independent travel services so, whatever you are looking for - a Caribbean cruise; your dream wedding or honeymoon; a thrilling activity holiday; a European city break or maybe just a hotel, or flight – all these and more are available to you.

In addition to our ATOL licence, 24/7 emergency contact is available should any issues arise whilst you are away, leaving you to relax into your holiday and enjoy it to the full.

South Africa - So much more than a Safari

22 August 2018

Having never visited South Africa or experienced the thrill of a safari, I was not sure what to expect from my trip to the Limpopo and Mpumalanga region of South Africa. I was not to be disappointed! After arriving at Johannesburg, I travelled to the Kapama Game Reserve - a magnificent reserve between the Kruger National Park and the Drakensberg mountains. This region is renowned for its wildlife, safaris and numerous bird species. A day at a Safari Lodge starts early, you might be tempted to hit the snooze button when the 5.30am call comes for the morning drive. You won't regret the early start though when you come across a giraffe enjoying an early morning drink at a waterhole, or the impressive sight of a herd of elephants crossing the path in front of you, or quite simply watching the antics of the yellow-billed hornbill. Guided game drive Safaris operate in the afternoon and early evening too, both times of the day will afford opportunities for you to see different animals with no two excursions ever being the same. On one evening safari, I had the opportunity to see two leopards resting in the branches of a tree just before sunset and watch lions lazing around in the evening sun. As an alternative to a vehicle safari you can also consider a Bush Walk. Guides offer an informative and fascinating walking safari through the South African bush. Our guide took time to explain how to recognise the different types of footprints on the dusty ground - we identified leopard, cheetah and lion paw prints. My trip was not just about safaris, I also experienced the thrill of ziplining through the Magoebaskloof over the Groot Letaba River completing 11 separate zip lines. I have always been nervous about heights, so I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this – I’m ready to try this again! I went for a ride on a quad bike for the first time and panned for gold in Pilgrims Rest but sadly did not make my fortune! We drove around the Limpopo & Mpumalanga region stopping to enjoy the breath-taking views of the Blyde River along the Panorama Route, at God's Window I shopped for local trinkets from small market stalls and stepped inside the centre of the fascinating Baobab Tree (also known as the 'upside down' tree). My trip to South Africa ended with a couple of nights in Johannesburg before returning to the UK. With friends I had made along the way we took part in a fun and informative bicycle tour of Soweto. Being on bikes made it easy to move between the various neighbourhoods - we stopped at a local market, visited the house where Nelson Mandela used to live on Vilakazi Street before cycling back to Lebo’s. Here we were invited to taste their home brew before enjoying a meal over an open fire. A top experience to complete an amazing time in South Africa! My tips for a Safari holiday would be: Clothing - avoid bright colours as you will want to blend in as much as possible so khaki, green and browns are a good choice. Clothing - think layers as it can get quite chilly on the back of the vehicle when you are on your game drive but it will warm up quickly. A pair of binoculars. A good pair of walking boots or trainers or closed in shoes for Bush Walks. A good camera. A backup charger for your phone as you end up taking several pictures and you wouldn't want to miss any opportunities to take that perfect shot. If you take an internal flight be aware that the baggage allowances may be less than you were permitted on your international flight to South Africa.

A Little Known Ski Gem - La Rosiere

10 August 2018

What are the benefits of skiing? The fresh air? The scenery? The exercise? The après–ski? I appreciate all these aspects of skiing and have visited resorts in Austria, France and Canada. Personally, the resort of La Rosiere is a bit of a hidden gem especially if you are thinking of skiing for the first time. La Rosière is also the only Savoyard resort to be part of an international ski area, with links to La Thuile in Italy. The resort offers something for everyone; easy ski runs to the more sporting ones, untracked powder fields and heli-skiing. La Rosiere is a little different from its famous neighbours such as Tignes, Les Arcs, Val d’Isere. It is smaller, quieter and has the great advantage of being sunnier. The slopes are south facing giving it the reputation of being one of the sunniest resorts in France, while its altitude brings a good snow record. On one holiday with my family, my brother and his family they decided to ski over into La Thuile. I did not join them as, on this occasion, I was quite happy enjoying the stunning views across the Isere Valley to Les Arcs. Upon their return, reclining in a deck chair, admittedly with the necessary glass of Gluhwein (it was apres-ski hour after all), they told us about their trip across to Italy including the ‘interesting’ black runs through the trees down into the village of La Thuile. My children learnt to ski here in La Rosiere and had a go at snowboarding too – but turns out they preferred traditional skiing. The ski instructors are excellent and Eude managed this task so well, my children were passing me on the slopes and leading me on to new adventures after just a couple of days. The resort is a traditional Tarentaise village built in a chalet style; it has a few shops, bars, restaurants and friendly locals. It is linked to the neighbouring village of Eucherts where you can have fun bowling in the evening too, if you haven’t had too much exercise during the day! Would you like to walk through Narnia? You can here - at least this is what the locals affectionally call the 15-minute stroll through the snow-capped trees between La Rosiere and Eucherts. The winding path has secluded viewpoints across the valley to Les Arcs which can be magical in the moonlight and you will feel like you are in a C.S. Lewis novel! Latest news on this resort is that plans have been unveiled to increase the size of the ski area next winter (estimated to open December 2018) with two new speedy chairlifts establishing a network of additional red pistes to the area. This will bring advanced-level slopes to the ski area, giving the resort a higher altitude and provide easier access to a huge off-piste area. Even if you don’t ski there’s always plenty to enjoy!

Catamaran Cruises & a turtle or two!

20 July 2018

If you’ve ever been to the Caribbean, or dreamt of going, one of the things you will think of is the crystal clear blue seas. Why not experience these waters with a front row seat on a catamaran cruise? The teardrop-shaped island of Barbados has been welcoming visitors to its shores for many years and I have been fortunate to holiday in Barbados twice with my family. On our previous visit we enjoyed a sunset catamaran cruise. Just one hour longer than the evening cruise, we decided to try the lunch cruise on our recent holiday. We were picked up from our accommodation in St Lawrence Gap at 8.45 and, once we arrived in Bridgetown at the cruise ship terminal, we were awake and ready to enjoy our day on the ocean. The crew gave us a short safety briefing and we set sail for our first snorkel of the day. We didn't have to venture too far as Carlisle Bay is close to Bridgetown. Being home to several shipwrecks, this is a great location to see marine life. Snorkels and masks adjusted we entered the water where we were rewarded with seeing turtles swimming in the clear crystal waters of this crescent-shaped bay. We went on to explore a shipwreck where you can see schools of tropical fish - there is a spectacular world of underwater life to be discovered. Once back on board we were presented with some homemade cake and a drink from the open bar. We continued to sail up the west coast of the island enjoying the gentle pace of the catamaran and the warmth of the Caribbean sun. After a while, we anchored up and here you could cool down with a refreshing swim or you could choose to jump off the side of the catamaran if you wish. The water is so clear I just had to give this a try! A delicious buffet lunch was served with flying fish, fried chicken and lots more! We made friends with Mark, one of the crew members, and he invited my daughter's boyfriend to help raise the sails. Apparently, this is a lot harder than it looks! He made us feel so welcome and created his own cocktail just for us - sadly he wouldn't divulge the recipe. In fact, the whole crew were a very friendly, sociable bunch and enjoyed joking around and making sure everyone had a fun time - especially when we returned to the terminal dancing away on the top deck. Fun for everyone!

“We have used travel agents for years but the pandemic put paid to our usual contacts. Through a business connection of our daughter’s we found Angela Tadd. What a find! Angela has provided a full and first class travel service from advice through booking to delivery of relevant documents and even checking us in out and home. Any changes made by operators were handled professionally and timely. We have travelled twice this year via Angela and have two more to come. Use her services next year? Absolutely."

From the outset of organising our holiday Angela was fantastic. Arranging a girl’s holiday for five, with one of the party travelling from a restricted location, Angela was able to identify a number of options within our limited search criteria. Angela was professional, knowledgeable and liaised with us regularly until our booking was confirmed. And then like many holiday makers, Covid-19 happened and that was when Angela’s service became invaluable. With five people involved it would have fallen to one member of the party to begin the unenviable task of trying to process cancellations, refunds amongst the chaos that ensued. Angela was exceptional throughout this time. She took care of everything and meant that none of us had the stress of the dealing with the situation. I cannot recommend Angela or the Travel Counsellor service highly enough. A truly individual experience and absolutely faultless in what must have been the most testing of times. Thank you Angela, we look forward to you re-organising our trip soon.

I wouldn't normally use an agent, having always hired appartments, gites or villas myself etc. however as this trip was to Japan, I changed my habits and have been amazed and astounded at the value, personalisation and ease. I will default to Angela Tadd now for all my travel needs. I recommend her everywhere I go!

It was a delight meeting Angela to plan our 'mini-moon'. Angela took the time to understand our wants and wishes, coming up with thoughtfully tailored options to consider. She was willing to research a number of possible locations and make helpful suggestions to narrow the search whilst still giving us choice! Her suggestions really showed that she had got what we were looking for in terms of location, travel options and accommodation style. She also thoughtfully included possible excursions of interest. I would highly recommend her to anyone who might want to take the stress out of finding the perfect holiday!

We had a fabulous time at our villa in Majorca. Angela really listened to all our requirements – rural location but close to facilities, shady garden and character villa, plenty of space for adult children, good sized pool, close to culture but close to girly shopping! Our list went on but Angela managed to tick all the boxes! She took all the hassle away from trawling through the internet and we will definitely be back to plan our next trip. Angela is patient but always on it; offering suggestions and ideas whilst keeping us abreast of travel developments at home and abroad. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Angela and will be passing her details on to friends and family.
