Anthem of the Seas - April 2015

I was one of 60 Travel Counsellors selected to spend 2 days onboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines's brand new ship Anthem of the Seas.

This ship is certainly big at 168,000 tonnes and a maximum capacity of 4180, having said that the design is very clever meaning there are numerous places on board you can go to spend some time other than the obvious sunbathing. The interior design is beautifully done.

As you would expect a shopping mall is waiting for to indulge, a lovely spa, an adult only solarium, children and teen centre, plus quiet areas just to sit and relax and watch the world go by.

Eating and drinking is equally well catered for (forgive the pun) - a wide choice of where and what to eat, 5 of which carry a cover charge - all of the others are for you to enjoy - you name it you can find it on Anthem, Japanese, Steak Bar, Pub Food, Burger and Chips, Pizza, Fine Dining, coffee and cake, deck side snacks and lots more. Not to forget Windjammer a signature feature on a Royal Caribbean ship - buffet style casual dining available almost all day.

Likewise if you are thirsty - various options to choose from here as well, from a traditional pub to a classic wine bar - not forgetting the innovative Robot Bar - you order your drink via an iPad, watch it being mixed and then delivered by the Robot!

Anthem is packed with features and activities including the Wave Flow Rider, the Climbing Wall and now the I Fly or skydiving, bumper cars and of course the North Star, a London Eye style pod which is raised up 300 feet above the ship, a real bird's eye view of the ship and everything around her - at the top you are almost the same height as the Statue of Liberty.

We must not forget the cabins - again plenty of grades to choose from - these range from a simple inside cabin through to a split level Royal Loft Suite - this cabin even has a Jacuzzi on the balcony. Every budget is accommodated for with a cabin to suit you.

You are spoilt for choice when the day turns into evening, a 2 tier theatre more than capable of offering full production shows, Two70 - a stunning lounge at the back of the ship featuring an ever changing back drop of screens, cabaret lounges, smaller show venues, Music Hall and of course the Casino.

Anthem will spend from April to October 2015 sailing from Southampton, she will spend the next 12 months in the Caribbean. There are 3 other ships in the same class Quantum, Harmony and Ovation.
