Magical Marrakech

Marrakech is a fabulous choice for a long weekend or short break. We flew from Manchester and spent four nights in this fascinating city, staying in a beautifully converted Riad within the medina walls. It was an oasis of calm in the midst of a busy city, and the pool and spa gave us lots of opportunities to relax. On our first morning we headed off with our guide for a walking tour of the city, taking in the Saadiens Tombs, the Souks, a Carpet Shop (of course!) and the famous El Fna Sqaure. The Souks are brilliant and the shopping is fantastic, wonderful leather goods, fabrics, metalwork, all with good humoured bartering! We also took a day trip into the foothills of the surrounding Atlas Mountains, which gave us an insight into the traditional Berber way of living. From here you can trek up to the waterfalls, although the hike is quite difficult so be prepared. I would certainly return to Marrakech and if I had more time I would combine it with a few days at Essauoira on the coast. Highly recommended!
