Unique & Romatic Venice

We arrived into Venice airport to be greeted by a representative who walked us to the private water taxi transfer, which was only about a 10 minute walk from the airport. Once we were in the boat, the holiday well and truly started with an exhilarating speed boat ride into the heart of Venice.

We stayed in a four star hotel which was set just behind the Grand Canal, so we were within walking distance of St Mark’s Square and everything the city had to offer.

The hotel itself had a fabulous roof terrace where you could sunbathe during the day and have a few cocktails at night. The view across the tops of the buildings was amazing.

The hotel staff were friendly and were happy to look after our bags on the day of arrival until check in time. The rooms were lovely and elegant with marble furnishings and we had a canal view room. Most rooms in Venice do not offer balconies so the roof top terrace was a great place to relax during the day.

Of course, we took the obligatory Gondola Ride; it has to be done. There are plenty of them to choose from but ours was part of an excursion which we pre-booked, coupled with a walking tour of Venice. The tour took us around the back streets of Venice and our guide gave us the history of the city. As part of the tour we visited St Marks Basilica, a magnificent building.

In Venice, there are endless amounts of shops. The streets are narrow and quaint and filled with designer clothes or market stalls and of course, there is plenty of souvenir shopping to be had.

Even though the city is busy, it has a very romantic feel to it. The architecture is stunning and the food was lovely with plenty of pizzas as you can imagine and they certainly know how to cook pasta.

If you have never been, then it is a must do. I personally don't like to return to many places as I like to explore new destinations. However, Venice is definitely on my list to visit again.
