Our Majorca holiday during the pandemic
I had been promising my daughter, Ashlea a mum and daughter holiday for the last several years. I had done this with Erin when she was younger, so I owed Ashlea a holiday, just the two of us. As I am fully vaccinated and Ashlea is under 12, we didn’t need PCR tests before travel, so it was all relatively easy. We just needed to fill in a passenger locator form for Spain 48 hours before we travelled.
I was keen to get away during the pandemic to see for myself how it was going away and to see if it really was worth the faff. I was only ever going to be completely honest about it. I had been refusing to book any customers on late summer bookings, until I had done it myself.
As it was just the two of us. I had planned it all very cautiously. Firstly, the hotel I chose was a Iberostar hotel. They had an assurance policy in place in case one of us tested positive while away, so this was great peace of mind, knowing what they would do for us if the worst should happen. It was also reassuring to know that none of their hotels had, had a case yet where guests had to isolate.
No matter what, testing positive while away was always in the back of my mind, but it certainly didn’t overshadow the whole experience because quite frankly, the moment we got away, all my concerns went out of the window when I realised, I felt safer away then in the UK.
Secondly, I chose a hotel that we could walk into that gradually got deeper, rather than relying on pool ladders that everyone else had touched to get in and out of…I told you I thoroughly thought of everything lol!
I choose a beachfront hotel in a central location, so that we had everything we needed right there without having to get in taxis or shuttle buses. I arranged us a private car transfer, again to minimise the amount of people we were being close to for a certain amount of time. The transfer on the coach would have been 1.5 hours, In the car it was just 45 minutes with no hotel drop off’s..Bliss!
