My Travel Diaries
This is one of the most fantastic places you could ever want to visit – a friendly city with the sort of hospitality that’s hard to find in many parts of the world. And just around the corner there are beautiful sandy beaches, deserted islands, pristine coral reefs, and tropical rain forests. Even mighty Mount Kinabalu is only an hour and a half away. The food, too, is varied, reflecting the diversity of its 30 ethnic groups.
Kota Kinabalu is situated on the tropical island of Borneo and is the capital of the Malaysian state Sabah, one of two states in East Malaysia. The location of the city is absolutely amazing, and from the airport it’ s just a short ride to most hotels.
My husband and I visited Kota Kinabalu in February and stayed at the Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort - 5 star, set on beautiful Pantai Dalit beach surrounded by 400 acres of lush tropical vegetation, including a unique nature reserve complete with Orang Utans! It is about 45mins drive from the airport, ideal for us after a long flight!
We upgraded to the Ocean Wing. I would say it was well worth it !! Staying at the Ocean Wing made us feel like we had entered one of the world’s most exotic sanctuaries.
Set amidst acres of tropical gardens, the new swimming pool and its surroundings are designed to create an exclusive oasis for guests to revel in.
The hotel operated 'Kids club' was the best we have ever used ....our 4year old just did not want to leave!
We went to Kinabalu National Park, where we experienced white-water rafting on Kiulu River, and then onto Poring Hot Springs.
Poring Hot Springs is a natural outlet for clear spring water heated deep inside the earth. In addition to the Hot Spring pools, we did a trek along one of the many trails but any of the trails at Poring will bring you alongside a fascinating display of flora, and sometimes, fauna. Not to be missed is the exciting Poring Canopy Walk. Poring Hot Springs is located about 2 hours from the resort, and is just one hour from Kinabalu National Park.
The hotel is just fantastic and I’d love to tell you more about this magical place and give you a few tips you should know before you go.
A PLACE NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN! WE HAD FUN FUN FUN!!
