Five-star experience at Grecotel Corfu Imperial

On elite Kommeno Bay on the island’s east coast, a blissfully short 20-minute transfer from Corfu International Airport, this very special and unique property – popular with royalties and other A-listers, and the setting for some of the greatest moments in Greece’s and Europe’s contemporary history – is perfect for spring and summer holidays in the Med, whether you’re travelling as a family or a couple (it’s popular with honeymooners).

Grecotel Corfu Imperial has the Travel Counsellors' Green Leaf logo in recognition of its commitment to minimising its impact on the environment and supporting the local community in which it operates which has seen it receive the Travelife Gold award. The property has adopted 13 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Five-star experience at Grecotel Corfu Imperial

What to do in and around the hotel

Private coves, no less than three sandy Blue Flag beaches and one diving beach – all with waiter service – are just one of the draws of this most idyllic of spots in Italian-style gardens on its own secluded peninsula.  There’s also one grand pool (heated in April, May and October), three freshwater pools (one indoor), a two-storey spa with a sauna, and yoga, Pilates and other fitness as wellbeing classes.

Spring and summer are a great time for water sports in Corfu, and the Corfu Imperial invites you to sign up for diving, canoeing, pedaloeing, water-skiing, banana-boating and donut-riding. Other activities range from parasailing to boccia and table tennis, and you can hire cycles from the Mountain Bike Centre and also use the facilities at the nearby Lux Me Daphnila Bay Dassia (basketball, mini-soccer, floodlit tennis courts with tuition, archery).

Live music, family shows and dancing keep all ages entertained, while the Grecoland kids’ club (ages 4–12 years) hosts the likes of cookery classes, Greek culture lessons, gardening and team sports. Outdoor Discovery Adventures for ages 7–14 teach children about the environment, culture and healthy eating, and in high summer there are also  Grecoteens activities, including beach volleyball and parties. There’s also a pre-order service for baby and toddler equipment.

For exploring, you can ask the concierge service (contactable 24 hours a day via Whatsapp) to set you up with yachting excursions, golf, horse-riding and trips to Danilia Village, where The Durrells was filmed – to name just some of the activities on offer. You can also enjoy luxury sea transfers around the island and to sister hotels (complimentary in high season).

Which accommodation to choose

Accommodation at the resort lives up to the opulence and sense of occasion imbued by its illustrious history: choose from waterfront suites, swim-up family bungalows, and apartments, or even aristocratic villas and dreamy palazzos with private pools.

They include the Il Boschetto collection designed exclusively for families, set amidst silvery-green olive groves and offering several family options within contemporary Corfiot–Italian architecture. The largest villas sleep up to eight, making this a great option for multigenerational holidays or for those catching up with other family or friends.

Where to eat

All restaurants at the resort are set on the seafront with large terraces; offerings include French fine dining at Aristos, the local catch served on an overwater deck at Yali Seafood, international buffet dining with a free kids’ corner at Mon Repos, and traditional Chinese cuisine with a Latin American/Mexican fusion twist at Merlin’s Restaurant Bar.

Other highlights are the Wine Bar by Trattoria, with wine, cheese and charcuterie served indoors and out, the Gelateria with its traditional ice cream, several poolside lounges with live music and snacks, and a beach bar. Room service is available, as is private dining –  by the beach or even aboard a yacht. The half-board Dine Club experience also lets you dine at the Imperial’s sister resorts on the Kommeno Peninsula.
