My Travel Diaries

Antigua Experience

Saturday 26th June 2010

4 Stars

In June I was fortunate to be invited along with a small group of agents to visit Antigua by the Antiguan Tourist Board.

We flew from London Gatwick with Virgin Atlantic Airlines and I was pleasantly surprised that the flight took only took 7.5 hours.

The purpose of this visit was to introduce us to the diversity of the island, its people, food, hotels and its miles of beautiful beaches.

We stayed at the 4.5 star Galley Bay. Only 20 minutes from the airport we were soon enjoying a rum punch whilst checking in to our rooms. My room was a superior beach front room with a separate lounge area. The hotel is offered on an all inclusive basis and there is s choice of 3 open air restaurants, the food was exceptional, fresh and well presented, and the service was impeccable. Even breakfast was a la carte so you could order exactly what you wanted; the eggs Benedict were to die for!!

Entertainment at this hotel is low key with a pianist playing most evenings.

We were taken out everyday and I tried several new experiences, such as zip wiring 350 feet above the forest canopy!! Swimming with mantra rays, and making pottery.

Other things to do on this island include visiting Nelson’s Dockyard for its maritime history, diving, snorkelling, sailing, horse riding cycling or why not just laze on one of the 365 beaches – swim in the warm sea and catch a few rays perhaps enjoy a cocktail or two.

Because its only 7.5 hours away I would recommend Antigua for a quick weeks break, or a full on summer holiday.

I hope to revisit this lovely island soon.
