Bahamas

I took my husband away to celebrate his 40th birthday in style and that is indeed what we did.

We stayed at Sandals Royal Bahamian and as soon as we arrived at the resort we were given a glass of cold champagne which was very welcoming after our long journey.

The Bahamian people are so warm and friendly - they really make you feel welcome. Everyone you passed always took the time to say hello and ask how you were.

The restaurants at the resort are fantastic, I could not fault any of them in any way. Baccarat and the Crystal room are the fine dining restaurants and they were truly delicious and the chandelier in the Crystal room and the steel band coming through every so often really made it a special experience. Kimonos was the Teppanyaki restaurant - it was great but don't expect to have a quiet table on your own. This is a fun way to dine with 8 other people and the chef entertaining you throughout your meal. There are too many restaurants to mention them all but they were all lovely. Baccarat required you to make a reservation but the others you could just turn up, sometimes you might have to wait to be seated but you can chill out in the bar with a cocktail (your on holiday after all!!).

There was a piano bar if you want to sing along some nights. There was the English Pub which some nights had karaoke. There was entertainment every night from Mr & Mrs Gameshow, comedians, live bands, magicians and lots more. We were constantly entertained!

There is lots of daytime activities for the energetic but if you just want to chill, there was also a quieter pool to do this.

Watesports are all included in the price too and as my husband and I are both scuba divers it was great value. We were taken to a number of different dive sites during our stay. There are quite a few purposely sunk wrecks around the island. We saw sharks, turtles, stingrays and lots of colourful marine fish.

We did a tour of the island and found there is some great shopping in Nassau. We also visited the Atlantis resort and went to the Aquaventure which is a truly amazing experience. We were like kids again going on the water chutes and slides. You fly through glass tubes in the water with sharks and rays surrounding you. We were able to walk through the aquarium and see the hundreds of different sharks, fish, rays etc.

Overall this was a fantastic holiday and totally beyond my expectations.
