My Travel Diaries
We stayed here over Christmas and New Year at the Centara Karon Beach Hotel.
On arrival we were met with ice cold face towels and a welcome drink. Then we were told we were being upgraded. What a start to our holiday!!
All the hotel staff went out of their way to make us feel relaxed after the long flight.
The beach was a short 5 min stroll away but this was not a problem, and when we saw the beach we thought WOW!! White sand and clear blue sea with rows of new sunbeds and parasols (they had all been replaced after the tsunami). There was a small charge for 2 beds and a parasol, about £1.50 but was well worth it. The owners kept the sand spotless and were always seeing if you wanted cold drinks, fruit, sandwiches, nuts etc.
The sea was clear and clean with hundreds of brightly coloured fish, but they moved away when you went near. A novelty was that when you walked on the sand it squeaked, I still do not know why.
Back at the hotel we had a Gala Dinner for Christmas & New Years Eve and were entertained with a band and dancers. At midnight on New Years Eve we enjoyed a fantastic fireworks display that went on for 40 minutes, by this time all the town were letting off fireworks and partying in the streets.
We took a trip to Patong - the party town of Phuket. Again the sand and sea were so clean but it was very crowded. The whole town was full of bars restaurants and clubs and came to life after dark.
The Thai people are so friendly and happy, you never seem to see a Thai stressed or angry. When you live on such a wonderful Island I am not surprised.
We will definately be visiting this Thailand again.
