My Travel Journals
Magical and full of mystery is how I would describe Morocco.
The last time I travelled to Morocco was in July 2007 and I have been here many, many times before, ( 20 in fact!)
This is where I travel with my husband every year. I love the country for its diversity, culture, and the friendliness of the local people. You can be in a seaside resort one day and the next deep in the heart of the Sahara Desert!
AGADIR:
Sea, sand and endless sun are the main attractions of Agadir set amidst the backdrop of the Mountains and the Kasbah whereby you can take a camel ride, I did, an experience not too be missed!
If you love to shop there’s the local souk which will take you all day to go around as well as many shops & café’s in the resort.
The finest hotels, lively nightlife and a pristine beach that stretches over 10km, all go to make this the perfect beach holiday whether you are a couple or a family, there’s something here for everyone.
If you’re a keen windsurfer then head to the cost of Essaouira where you will find great surfing year round. Sailing, yachting & water skiing are also popular here.
MARRAKECH:
Only 4 hours away by road you can visit Marrakech, here it is distinctly different to Agadir but each place will leave you breathless whilst you embark on an unforgettable journey through the alleyways of the Souk in Djemma El Fna.
So if you’re looking for that perfect souvenir to take home, it’s a must! Try to haggle, it’s all part of the experience! I always come away with a bargain or 2 and often I’d be invited from the shop owner for a cup of traditional mint tea as well!
From beautiful ceramics to carved wood, leather goods, carpets, pottery and jewellery, there’s something here for everyone.
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the souk, you can visit the Majorelle Gardens owned by Yves St.Laurent which are truly beautiful and well worth a visit.
If you are a food lover then you’ve come to the one country whereby you can taste one of the best cuisines in the world! I love the food here, From couscous, tagines, kebabs, harira (local soup), and fresh fish, there’s a new experience in every bite!
To complete every meal you can finish with the national beverage of freshly brewed green, mint tea served in an elegant Moroccan teapot poured into small glasses. Moroccans enjoy this at any time of the day or night, and it is highly recommended that you do, too!
This is a fascinating country for a truly unforgettable experience of a lifetime, that’s what I did & my love of this country holds no bounds, I will definitely be back!!
