Over 25 years ago I started out as a travel consultant in the high street and thus began a long career arranging customer’s holidays and travel plans! From a young age I knew travel was going to be my life!
I am now proud to be part of one of the UK’s largest independent travel agents who offer a service which is second to none. Working as a Travel Counsellor has allowed my true passion for the travel industry to reflect in the service I offer to each and every one of my customers.
I love travelling myself and been fortunate enough to have visited many places around the world acquiring first-hand knowledge of many destinations. I have travelled to many parts of the Mediterranean, the USA including Disney, Far East and Australia. One of my favourite destinations is the Greek Islands – where I was also once a holiday rep!
I also specialise in cruise, tailor-made holidays, honeymoons and weddings abroad and have arranged weddings for customers and their guests in Cyprus, the Caribbean and Mauritius!

What a magical holiday we have just had just before Christmas at Disneyland Paris! I have been to Disneyland Paris before, staying in central Paris and taking the train in. This time we travelled to Disneyland Paris with Air France from Heathrow. We left home after school and arrived at an airport hotel to stay overnight ready for our early morning flight. We had a great airport parking option right next to the hotel, and our car was waiting for us outside the terminal on our return. Flying actually worked out a few hundred pounds cheaper than the Eurostar on this occasion.
On the 18th December we managed a great deal of half price and kids under 12 stay and play free! The flight was over so quickly, and the Disney coach transfer was easy to find and dropped us off at our hotel door.
We stayed for four nights at Disney’s Newport Bay Club Hotel and had a lovely room on the Admiral Floor overlooking the lake. The hotel was lovely. It had a really nice pool and the staff were very friendly. I had read negative reviews on trip advisor so was a little worried but we were hugely surprised! It was so much better than we had expected. The room was large enough for the four of us. Disney characters visited the hotel lobby each morning for photos, two different characters each day. Definitely get up early for breakfast, anytime from 8am onwards is hectic! Before then it’s not so bad.
We enjoyed walking from the hotel, along the lakeside to Disney Village and on to the Disney Parks. It’s about a 20 minute walk. There was also a road train which ran around the lake for a charge of a few euros each. Alternatively the free Disney shuttle bus was frequent, every ten minutes or so between our hotel and the entrance to the parks.
Guests staying at the Disney hotels have access to Disneyland Park from 8am, two hours before the general public. Although only certain rides are open for these two hours but there is a programme to tell you which. We took advantage of this as there were no queues and we got to go on some of our favourite rides during those two hours – several times!
If you obtain an Easypass from hotel reception, you can use this in the Disney parks to purchase items and have them charged to your hotel bill. You can even have shop purchases delivered to your hotel so you don’t have to carry shopping bags around! I’d say this is a great idea as most UK banks charge a few pounds on foreign transactions. If you keep using your card, those charges add up but by adding everything to your hotel bill, you just pay one charge.
We had a lot of fun seeing the characters throughout the day and meeting for cuddles, photos and autographs. A programme advised of the times and locations of the character meet and greets and the parade. At most attractions there is information estimating the queuing time, if it was too long we went back later. There is also the Fastpass service on some rides which books you a time to return and ride.
Christmas at Disneyland is fabulous! It was even snowing (fake snow) at times! There is an extra Christmas Parade which has toys, elves, Santa on his sleigh and a huge Christmas tree and the main street is decorated beautifully. There is also a Santa village where you can visit Santa. However the only thing we didn’t like was the queuing time to see Santa - two hours!
We also spent a day in Disney Studios and then another day at the Disney Park, but later in the day went to Universal for the parade then back to Disney again. The great thing with the tickets included in the holiday is you can do this, change from park to park. Every day we hired a pushchair from close to the entrance as our three year old was tired from all the walking! And it was great to hang our bags on! It was twelve euros a day.
A large percentage of the rides’ queues are undercover as Disneyland Paris is in Europe with European winter weather being the same as the UK! We found it best to go to Disney Studios Park on the day it rained as there was lots to do indoors with shows and theatres.
Disney are currently offering Disney Dreams, a night time spectacular show centred around Sleeping Beauty’s castle with music, fireworks, laser shows and projected images onto the castle. When we were there it began around 6pm. It was amazing!
We did the character breakfast which was very good. I would highly recommend booking in for this! We had six characters visit during our breakfast and it was lovely as they come round each table and spend time letting you arrange to take photos. The buffet breakfast is also very good with a good choice of food.
During the evenings, we ate at the hotel twice, mainly because it was convenient but I would recommend eating out. It’s expensive to eat in the hotel so you may as well eat in a restaurant and get a better choice of places! To avoid queuing, eat lunch early – before 12 is best. A few times we made the mistake of going at peak times in search of food and standing in long queues, even at McDonalds!
One experience I would definitely recommend is Buffalo Bills Wild West Show. It’s a cowboy and Indian’s themed show with appearances from Mickey, Minne and a few others. My children were amazed with the real horses and cattle. It was very entertaining and even our three year old loved it and didn’t get bored. There are two shows and it includes a dinner with a children’s choice and drinks. It’s not daily, and it’s often full so pre-book this.
On our last day, we checked out, handed our luggage in at the concierge and then we went into the Disney Park again for another day and collected our luggage at the time our transfer coach was due back to the airport (which was hourly).
We are already planning our next trip! We would definitely go again at Christmastime, but we’d love to also go when it’s not so cold too! A stay at the Disneyland Hotel would be the ideal hotel at Christmas as it’s the closest to the park gates – not as far to walk if the weather is snowy, raining or cold in December! For a stay in the summer, we’d definitely stay at the Newport Bay Club again as it has an outdoor pool.
Singapore is an ideal stopover choice on the way to Australia, or as a twin centre with other Asian destinations.
This time we stayed at the 5*Shangri La Hotel which is a resort style hotel at the top end of Orchard Road. We loved staying in the Garden Wing rooms in a tropical lush landscaping which is lovely and relaxing after a day hitting the shops! The lagoon style pool is famed at this hotel.
It’s only a short walk from the hotel to Orchard Road, Singapore’s busiest and famous shopping area where there are shopping centres galore! Over a mile of glossy shops! Alternatively go to Chinatown and Little India for cheap, quality goods while enjoying the cultural shopping experience, it’s also one of the best place to buy electronic goods. All the shopping centres are clean, very modern and air conditioned. This Air Conditioning is welcome, especially as it’s virtually always hot and humid (and can rain at any time) and when it is sunny it is very hot!
We visited the famous RAFFLES Hotel, where it is practically obligatory to visit the Long Bar and sample the Singapore Sling, and fling your nuts around the room!
Singapore is a multi-cultural food paradise…In Clarke Quay there are many restaurants serving excellent food and you can take a boat trip around the area.
Visit or have a short stay at Sentosa Island. Sentosa is well worth visiting to see the beach and Universal Studios.
If there is one worldwide city you have to visit, Hong Kong is it! It certainly does live up to all its hype, and has to be one of the world's most photogenic cities! We absolutely loved it here and would definitely go back.
We stayed for three nights here before spending a few days at Disneyland Hong Kong. We managed to do quite a lot of sight-seeing. One big tip is to buy an "Octopus" card. These are available at any MTR (underground) station and cost HK $150 (approx. £12.00). These are great because they can be used on any public transport, including the ferries, buses, trams, even car parks and some visitor attractions, and saves having to dig about for the correct change all the time. They can even be topped up at any 7/11 store. We had a young child in a pushchair so didn’t use the underground but found we got around Kowloon and Hong Kong Island very easily.
We stayed at the Shangri La Hotel in Kowloon. A great hotel with fantastic views and easy to walk from. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and just a 10 minute walk along the waterfront to the Star Ferry terminal which takes you across to the island. It’s in a good place to wander to Nathan Road and all the shops.
Every evening we visited the Avenue of Stars to watch the “Symphony of Lights” - It’s on every night at 8pm and is the world’s biggest sound and light show, a must see in Hong Kong!
We went over to Hong Kong Island via the famous Star Ferry to visit Victoria Peak travelling on the Peak Tram. Once there, you get one of the most famous views in the world, simply breath-taking!
The Tian Tan Buddha is also known as the Big Buddha and you will find it on Lantau Island. This is a large bronze statue and as well as being a major tourist attraction in Hong Kong, it is a centre of Buddhism in Hong Kong. It dominates the skyline and is a beautiful monument.
Hong Kong has more shops and restaurants than you can visit in a year, let alone a week, but we tried to see as many as possible. It really is a shopper’s paradise, and the place has commerce at every corner. Night markets, bird markets, late night food stalls… Take walking shoes, plenty of money, a big dose of patience and a culinary sense of adventure!
We went on to visit Disneyland Hong Kong. It’s not far away from the city and was easy enough to get there in a taxi quite cheaply. There are two onsite hotels at Disneyland and just one Disney Park which was like Magic Kingdom. It’s ideal for little ones but not so many thrill rides, but we had plenty of photo opportunities with Disney characters! The Disneyland hotel was wonderful and we had a few days sunbathing by the pool looking out onto the South China Sea.
My top tip for Hong Kong – It’s worth the extra to upgrade to a Harbour View Room!

I would just like to let you know about our experience with Lesley Hyde, Travel Counsellor.
We have just got back from an absolutely fantastic Christmas skiing holiday.
It was our first time spending Christmas away from home & it did not disappoint.
Lesley Hyde organised everything from start to finish & everything in between. She was there to answer our endless questions and made us feel like we were her only clients, a bespoke holiday… She made us feel confident about travel abroad as we hadn’t been since pre covid. She is extremely knowledgeable, patient & most approachable, even when you feel some questions are silly. Contactable at all times, not just Mon-Fri, 9-5.
Our resort was fantastic & there was endless snow, skiing & apres ski. The ski school & ski passes were sorted for us by Lesley. She literally thought of everything, even down to helping us choose a resort with the most chance of guaranteed snow. Staff in our hotel were very polite & helpful too.
We have booked with Lesley before & will most definitely be booking with her again.

Travel Counsellors, in particular Lesley Hyde, have been really helpful and efficient in booking my trip to Australia.
This was a six week trip for a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust travel fellowship, which involved some travel around different parts of Australia, so I needed help with flights and finding accommodation in all. I also tagged a two week holiday on the end of the trip.
Lesley proved really resourceful in coming up with ideas and recommendations, which was great, and really efficient in securing bookings at good rates.
When things became difficult towards the end of my trip, due to COVID-19 and flight cancellations, Travel Counsellors were incredibly helpful with up-to-date information and advice, finding and booking alternative flights and liaising with the airlines. Their out-of-hours helpline was a great support to have when there was often nowhere else to go for help.

Just returned from an amazing 14 nights at the Zafiro hotel in Can Picafort, Majorca. Another amazing destination suggested by Lesley. Matched all our favourite holiday criteria, large freshwater pools, lots of sun loungers, shops, pubs & restaurants to visit without being too commercial. The hotel & staff were amazing. A very good 4 star resort & we return fully rested & rejuvenated and all ready to book next years with Lesley again. In addition to suggesting terrific locations It’s all the little touches like checking you in & preparing luggage tags like makes the difference. I really wouldn’t go anywhere else. Lesley!!......FANTASTIC! My sister and I asked for her help in organising a trip of a lifetime for us, to Canada. We wanted to visit a relative, some friends and also incorporate some sightseeing and experiences. We just wanted to say thank you for organising our trip to Seoul and Tokyo.
The flights with Asiana airlines were great and we felt well looked after on the flights.
The hotels were also in great locations with access to all the attractions we wanted to visit.
The whole trip was very well organised and made it relatively stress free for us considering it was a 2 city break in an area of the world we had never visited before.

Lesley has just organised a wonderful holiday for us. We have always put together our own trips abroad, so wasn't sure what Lesley could do that we couldn't! Wow how wrong was I, not only did she find some very cost effective flights we hadn't found she put the whole package together flights, wonderful accommodation, car hire. Someone described Vegas to me as a “posh Blackpool” and that to me was a good description of the place. It’s definitely worth a visit. The highlight of the holiday for me was flying over the Grand Canyon, it was just amazing! Something everybody must do whilst in Vegas. We have only ever used travel agents shops before to book our holidays abroad as it always seemed to be the easiest and most convenient option. Well not anymore!!! What could be easier than communicating with someone at your own convenience without having to drag the children into a shop where they are bored after the first half hour? Lesley was excellent at managing our expectations around when she would be able to respond to us, and came back to us within those timescales every time. Nothing was too much trouble and even when we realised we had got her to look for a holiday for the wrong dates, it still didn't seem to be a problem. All of the paperwork arrived in a lovely presentation folder - very impressed – and yesterday we even received a card from Lesley, thanking us for booking with her and again assuring us that nothing was too much trouble and any queries to feel free to contact her. Lesley has been exceptional as our travel agent. My family and I have just come back from Orlando. She dealt with everything for us, and as there were 12 in my party that booked at different times it was no easy task. She kept me fully informed with e-mails and phone calls at all times. She is very professional in her job and the way she dealt with the holiday took all the stress away from me and my family. Not just flights and car hire - she arranged our park passes as well. Lesley sorted out a seamless and lovely holiday for a half term break for my family. She even arranged fabulous weather! I literally had nothing to do other than provide her with a quick brief and then a few details by email. Beyond that every single step was taken care of for me, right down to printing out the boarding cards. We usually have two holidays a year and leave the booking in the capable hands of Leslie at Travel Counsellors. We have used Leslie for several years depending on her to find us the holiday we require and we have never been disappointed. We receive a personal touch from Leslie and nothing is too much trouble for her. Sometimes it takes us a few weeks but she is in touch with us offering loads of choices until we finally make our decision. We always receive our paperwork on time and should there be any problems, it is dealt with immediately. Where else would you get such service? We pass her cards out on holiday, and our neighbours now deal with Leslie as well. We sing her praises where ever we go. She is an excellent representative for Travel Counsellors.
