Customer Blog: Magical Norway & the Northern Lights Cruise 2024

Lucy Morgans on 17 January 2024
In January 2024 we fulfilled our ambition of taking a winter cruise along the Norwegian coastline.

As this was our first holiday in Norway, we decided to spend the first two days visiting Oslo. We arrived to be met by a substantial snowfall – stunning!! Our first day we spent visiting amazing museums travelling on the local buses. On our second day we woke to -20 degrees. After a wonderful breakfast we ventured out into slightly warmer weather, -17 degrees. Sounds cold, actually it wasn’t. The sun was shining, and we spent the day walking around the city.

The following day we took the train across the mountains to Bergen where we were to transfer to our ship. Severe weather intervened and we were flown to the beautiful city of Trondheim to board the ship. This gave us an extra day in Trondheim which plenty of time for sight-seeing.

We then enjoyed an amazing time cruising along the coastline – the views were breath-taking. We could choose from either sitting in the viewing gallery with a coffee or braving it out on the deck. Our crossing into the Arctic Circle fulfilled another of our ambitions as did Husky Sledding in Tromso.

This really was an amazing holiday – the ship’s crew ensured we had everything we needed. Daily briefings helped us decide which excursions we took, and the informal lectures gave us a fascinating overview of Norway. The food was first class.

Norway didn’t disappoint us – it met our expectations and more. Will we go back? – you bet we will!!
