St Lucia Family Holiday

Tuesday 15th April 2008

My wife, 11 year old daughter and myself decided to have our family holiday in St Lucia this year, a Caribbean get away for a second year running. This was my first all inclusive experience, and one I would definitely recommend.

We stayed at the The Cocunut Bay Beach Resort & Spa.
We all wanted to spend our time together, so we spent the days splashing around in the pool, going round the lazy river or down the watershoots. We all like to read, and this was a perfect week to catch up on some reading.

As we stayed on an all inclusive basis, the food and drinks were already paid for, which made life really easy. For an example, we ventured over to Rodney Bay for the day to enjoy the Jet Skis and paragliding. We had lunch at a local eatery and a couple of drinks. The bill came to around £40 for the 3 of us, which is pretty reasonable. Although if you multiply that by seven days and at least 2 meals a day, we knew we were onto a good thing with the excellent choices at Coconut Bay. The drinks available were international brands. Please don't think we were there just to eat and drink as much as possible, but it's really good knowing everything has been paid for and we can relax and have a good time without spending a fortune.

There was plenty to keep us occupied at the hotel from swimming to resort fitness, daily activities including tennis, yoga, aerobics and a very good kids club. In the evening the hotel invited local and international artists to perform and they really tried hard to keep things varied. I found it to be great value for money and they liked to involve everyone.

As far as St Lucia is concerned, it's a typical Caribbean island, with a mixture of shanty areas mixed with bigger houses and resort complexes. If you like to chill out, enjoy the sunshine and eat good food, then you will love this friendly island. If you want museums, great architecture and fascinating places of interest, then perhaps this is not the place for you. Although you do have the rain forest canopy tours, sightseeing at the Pitons (the islands twin peaked tourist attraction, and name of local beer), snorkelling, diving, or visiting the worlds only drive in active volcano.

This holiday was great for all three of us and we could have done with 3 more days, a week was too short.
Overall the hotel and staff were excellent, the food was varied and enjoyable, the weather in the high 20's, the sea was warm but choppy and the memories were good. Happy days!!
