My husband and I decided to go away without our daughters for the weekend to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary. I picked Venice, a place where I have always wanted to go and I wasn't disappointed. In fact I have fallen in love again....with Venice.

We stayed in a lovely hotel right on the Grand Canal and didn't realise until the morning (after arriving late evening) how beautiful that was. We had breakfast on the hotel terrace overlooking the Grand Canal with the water lapping up onto it....gorgeous.

We walked and walked over the little waterways, getting lost and then finding ourselves again. The main Square, Bascilica of San Marco is beautiful where you can also visit the Palace of the Doges and the "Logetta" (the famous clock tower) On and on we walked eventually finding the Rialta Bridge, which was superb. We stopped and had coffee whilst watching the world go by.

Late afternoon when the waterways were quieter we took a Gondola around the canals, it was so romantic. I couldn't help myself but to ask the Gondoleir to sing too!!

Venice also has a lido and we took the water bus over to see the beach, it is glorious and the pasta there was great too (and cheaper!!)

Venice is a place I would love to return to and will stay in my memory for a long time.
