'Stunning Sorrento'

Melissa LoGalbo on 13 June 2015
I travelled to Sorrento because I was invited to a wedding over there. Sorrento is just simply stunning and typically Italian, situated on one of the most spectacular points on the Neapolitan Coast. We stayed at the Grand hotel Capodimonte which is set on a hillside amongst terraced gardens which boasts amazing views across the beautiful bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the main shopping street and bustling Piazzo Tasso.

There is a very wide choice of places to eat in Sorrento where you can sit at pavement tables and watch the world go by. The cobbled side streets are bustling with local shops selling their local produces and relaxed cafes and restaurants.

There is so much you can see and do from Sorrento it’s a great base to explore the area from. We took the ferry to Positano for the day, its important to check the ferry times as they do not operate frequently. Positano is the coast’s most picturesque and photogenic town, with steeply stacked houses tumbling down to the sea in a cascade of peach, pink and terracotta colours. The streets are steep and steps lined with wisteria-draped hotels, smart restaurants and plentiful boutiques. There is also a sandy beach so the ideal place for a day out.

You can also get the Ferry from Sorrento to the Islands of Capri and Ischia and there is a great bus service that can take you to the town of Amalfi and Ravello. There are trips you can go on for example Pompei, Vesuvius or Herculaneum. Or maybe have an Italian cookery lesson or an afternoon wine tasting.
