Beautiful Verona

I recently spent a long weekend in this fabulous city – and what a hidden gem Verona is!

If you like cobbled streets, Shakespeare (Verona inspired many of his plays), beautiful houses and delicious Italian food you’ll love this wonderful place. As an added bonus, wonderful Lake Garda is close enough to visit in a day. We spent our days walking around the city and as it’s quite small you can see most of it in a few days and have time to spend a day on the lakes as we did. A must is a visit to the Arena, a Roman Amphitheatre which dates back to AD30 and still hosts concerts and opera today. You can also see a lot of tributes to Romeo and Juliet and the house which is supposedly the inspiration behind the play!

Our day trip to Lake Garda was fantastic - we went to a town called Sirmione and could have easily spent a week here and then another month exploring the other towns around the lake. A day was not long enough really but gave us a great taster of the beautiful spa town.

I fell in love with Verona and its surroundings and will be back.
