Antigua Beach Holiday

Wednesday 7th November 2007

5 Stars

We travelled to Antigua for a relaxing beach holiday!

This was our second visit to the beautiful island of Antigua and actually the second visit to the same hotel...

Its just over 8 hours 30 mins to fly to Antigua and the great thing is that the island is pretty small so the transfer time is short and we were soon there checking in. The room we had booked was a standard room and to be honest pretty small and towards the back of the resort, but perfectly clean and tidy. However as we were repeat guests to the hotel, a room upgrade was provided a couple of days later to an Ocean Front room. A really lovely suprise and to go to sleep each evening to the sound of the waves outside and awake to the beautiful views is an expereince I would highly recommend.

This was what I call a 'Fly and Flop' holiday.. Our days started with a hearty breakfast and then just a few steps away was the the beach; perfect and beautiful with an array of activities including beach volley ball, water aerobics, fishing trips, snorkelling etc. All readily available but if you just wanted to lie, relax and read your book that was fine.

For lunch we had the choice to go into the main restaurant or venture up to the top of the cliff to Marys Outhouse; this was usually our haunt as there was a lovely breeze and our friendly chef Mary was usually there serving up chicken and ribs in her secret sauce. Delicious!

The highlight in the evening was dinner and there was a choice of restaurants. We liked the Mexican the best, but you do have to prebook the restaurants after breakfast. After dinner there was live entertainment at the bar, usually a local band.

We took a trip up to Shirley Heights on the Sunday afternoon, this is definately worth doing as there are fabulous views of St Johns harbour and you can watch the sun go down to the sound of a local Regae band...quite an experience! There are plenty of other trips you can take from the resort like yacht charters, catamaran trips, trip to St Johns and English Harbour, also Eco Tours exploring some unspoilt points on the island.

I would definitely recommend Antigua for a beach holiday, honeymoon or wedding destination. We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing beach break.

If you need any further information on Antigua just give me a call or drop me an e-mail...I would be delighted to help.
