My Travel Diaries
I love cruising! Even looking back to my childhood (a long time ago!) I remember enjoying life onboard with my parents. Now it was time to fly down to Barcelona on a short 4 night trip aboard Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas.
In comparison to the small old ships I remember from my childhood, this ship was enormous and impressive. I was lucky enough to experience 'Navigator' on an educational trip so it was a mixture of relaxation and pleasure, with learning and work. After trying all 17 bars...it was certainly an enjoyable education. The fine dining and superb entertainment made my time a very positive experience with my colleagues as well as the many new people that I got to know onboard.
I think the main highlight was the ice rink. It seems incredible that you can ice skate and watch magnificent ice shows while travelling at sea. But as you can see from the photos, it can and does happen to everybody's amazement and enjoyment.
We started in Barcelona and stopped in Villefranche where the tender took us ashore giving us a choice of a visit to Monte Carlo or Nice. I chose to stay onboard and enjoy the pools, spa and many restaurants. Just sitting on my balcony with a beer was a special experience. The peace and feeling of luxury and indulgence has a magical feel about it and made me realise why so many people now choose cruising as a great way to enjoy their holidays.
Then we sailed to Ibiza where I wandered through the streets, enjoying the alfresco cafe bars and local traders offering all kinds of great products to the many who enjoy shopping. Busy market areas and fast flowing traffic gave Ibiza a mixed feeling of lively activity together with many places to relax and unwind over a coffee, great food and a glass of wine or a beer.
In summary, cruising has come along way in recent years and more people are trying it out. I think that once you have enjoyed the cruising experience, its a kind of holiday that attracts you back. Heres to my next one!
