My Travel Diaries
Sometimes it is possible to have a great holiday so close to home! Sally and I decided to take the children and our one year old puppy (Mac) on a boating holiday. This was the first time for all of them except me, so we thought we would try it out over 4 nights and 5 days starting in a lovely village called Horning. It was great value, great fun and certainly a 5* holiday experience.
As soon as Bryony and Rhia saw the boat there was a ‘WOW’ and they took to it immediately. If you enjoy freedom, self catering and nature then this kind of holiday is perfect. We were very lucky with the weather and even though it was October, we still had the roof down and enjoyed the warm sunshine.
We were nervous about taking our Westie/Bijon cross with us as we didn’t fancy jumping in the water to rescue him if he chased after the ducks and swans, however, he has some sense and wandered freely around the boat without a care in the world! As you can see from the photos, he had a great time.
Everyone is so friendly on these holidays, chatting at the moorings, in the riverside pubs and acknowledging each other as our boats pass by.
This is not a holiday for those looking for action packed activities. The birdlife is amazing and the scenery great for photography especially around Wroxham, Stalham and Potter Heigham as we cruised around winding rivers with weeping willows painting a beautiful scene. I think our favourite bit was mooring up amongst the trees …purely back to nature with a great home cooked meal, a glass of wine and relaxation.
I think this is a great holiday for families and groups of friends. To get the most out of this kind of holiday you need to be able to relax and enjoy peace and quiet. I have never seen so many smiles on the children’s faces and even Mac wants to come back again.
I hope you like our photos and thank you for reading my journal. Feel free to call me if you would like to know more about boating holidays anywhere in the UK or abroad.
