Prague...the perfect city break

Sunday 8th August 2010

5 Stars

Prague is the perfect place for culture, history, stunning scenery, food and romance. It is a city with so much to see and admire with something new around every corner.

Wendy and I visited Prague in August 2010 and enjoyed our time discovering the city, its people and some excellent food, wine and of course Czech beer. We chose to stay in the Residence Monastery which is part of the historic Strahov Monastery. The setting was perfect with views across the city including Prague Castle, the Vltava River with all its bridges and beautiful parkland. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the rooms were clean, well planned and with contemporary furniture set amongst the old beams and floors of the historic building.

We enjoyed a lunch cruise on the Vltava River while listening to music and tasting the delights of Goulash. As we passed under the bridges and past the churches it was great to see the bustling city from the river.

The transport around Prague was very easy. Although there was a metro, busses and trains, our favourite transport was on the trams which take you all over the city. Staying on top of a hill made it easy to walk down, but the trams were the perfect way back to our hotel. There seemed to be so many great restaurants and bars that all had great character and added to the Prague experience that we enjoyed so much.

Of course we visited Old Town Square, strolled across Charles Bridge and studied the famous astronomy clock, but there were so many wonderful sights to see it was difficult to see everything.

I think Prague is ideal to see in the summer as that’s when it’s at its best. My top tip would be to wear good walking shoes, take a good camera and enjoy relaxing in the many alfresco bars and restaurants. It’s a perfect 'summer short break city' and comes highly recommended by us both. It has a charm and romance about it.

Thank you for reading my Prague travel diary. Enjoy looking at our photos and we hope you like them. If you would like to know more or book your city break in Prague, please feel free to call me. I look forward to hearing from you.
