Weekend in Finland

You'd not be mistaken to see similar heading on my blogs this was our 3rd attempt to see the Northen lights but wasn't to be.... twice Iceland and this time Finland!

Nevertheless it was an amazing experience!

leaving from Humberside our local airport was a bonus. the operator we work with for this trip has an array of regional airports as well as Manchester and London

On arrival in snowy Finland we were allocated a time for dinner and to go and be fitted for suits and boots ??

After a day travelling it was early night time!

the next morning, we had our first treat in store. a short trip to meet Santa's helpers the Reindeers! After meeting them in their natural habitat and hearing all about the culture from a Sami native we were treated to a ride in a sleigh. .aa you can imagine I was snapping away the pics and the Reindeer behind us wanted to be in the selfie he kept coming up level with us priceless!

back to the hotel we had the opportunity to go on night walk into the forest. it was quite more strenuous than we expected and hard going underfoot despite the outdoor weather wear so we opted to turn back to the hotel for a warming hot chocolate and marshmallows.

The hotel DAVVI Lodge is quite remote. a petrol station /cafe just down the road and a year round Lapland xmas shop! That being said you can take a 20 mins walk to the border and hop into Sweden where you go back 1hr in time.

Next morning was my dream trip. Huskies sledging....! how often do you get the chance to mush your own pack? I was in my element! hard going mind whilst holding on once the excited dogs set off using a metal plate as a brake and a meshing to slow down and clear the snow off at the same time... One of my best ever holiday moments

the night time saw a very different mode of transport. after being fitted up with safety gear and shown the ropes we set off in convoy into the wilderness on Snowmobile over a frozen lake!

Again the lights didn't want to show but we were treated to a pink sky whilst enjoying a hot drink break.

Despite the lack of Northern Lights we had a fabulous weekend!
