My Travel Diaries
We flew to Cape Town and spent our first night at the wonderful and gracious Cape Grace. The complementary limo transfer service whisked us off for a meal at the Africa Café for a South African feast.
Up early the next morning we flew up to the Kruger to stay at Cybele Forest Lodge. We were delighted with our room- our own luxury cottage complete with a private garden, pool and monkeys to entertain us! We enjoyed our evening meals and excellent wine served in the main house restaurant after enjoying aperitifs on the candlelit porch. The next day we walked and followed the forest and river walk trails returning to relax in our garden .
The next day we were taken by private car transfer up to the Kruger National Park for our stay at Legends, Tinga Game Reserve. Tinga has a concession right in the Park so you gain access to the public Park areas as well so experience better game viewing opportunities. We enjoyed our stay at Tinga so much from the lovely suite with terrace and plunge pool overlooking the River Sabie, all the excellent meals and food, superb game drives with the best game drivers and guide you could have, we heard a lion roar right beside the vehicle, leopard, giraffe and impala galore, elephant, rare birds, in fact we did the Big Five! We were treated to a candlelit dinner in our suite and a communal traditional boma dinner.
After three wonderful days we flew back to Cape Town. We picked up a Car and drove up to charming Franschhoek in the Winelands. We stayed one night at the delightful parisian Franschhoek Country House in one of the chic Villa room. We dined very well in the hotel’s well known Monneaux restaurant. One night here is not enough!
We drove onto Sanbona Wildlife Reserve along the mountain garden route road into the Little Karoo which is about three hours from Cape Town. This area is in complete contrast to the Kruger. Undulating mountains, vast plains, rock formations, and indigenous flora and flora, the whole reserve once was goat and sheep farms and is being restored to its natural state with game being introduced again to the area. It is now home to the only place in the world to see white lions roaming free which we had the privilege to see. We stayed in the luxury tented accommodation at Dwyka Lodge for two nights..
The whole experience here at Sanbona is magical. The scenery is so stunning that the game viewing is secondary although the game drivers try extremely hard to make sure to see all there is to see, white and tawny lions, cheetah, springbok, giraffe, zebra, elephants and more. We enjoyed stargazing before dinner and a brilliant bush breakfast cooked by our great guide Sol. Sanbona is a vast and beautiful place.
We had a long drive back to Cape Town so we wished we had booked a stop en route. We arrived at Camps Bay to stay two nights at Twelve Apostles late afternoon to check into our luxury room. After a sundowners drink on the balcony we enjoyed a great fish dinner at the Cod Father restaurant in Camps Bay. The next day we drove and followed the Constantia wine route to visit Constantia Uitsig The vineyard’s champagne and wine are excellent as we discovered after a wine tasting. We enjoyed a relaxed evening meal in the wonderful leopard room bar at Twelve Apostles. I really love the hotel's ambiance and fresh décor along with the excellent service.
We returned to stay at the Cape Grace for two more nights. We stopped to visit Cape Royal, a new hotel overlooking the new football stadium. The whole area of Green Point has been spruced up in preparation for the World cup with new roads, shops and restaurants. Cape Royal has superb suite rooms complete with full kitchens. The roof top pool and bars has wonderful views and we enjoyed a great steak lunch in the restaurant.
We went along in the evening to visit the new and amazing One & Only Hotel, this luxury resort style hotel is right on the V&A Waterfront. We enjoyed a meal in Gordon Ramsay’s Maze restaurant
Our last day was spent relaxing by the pool in the sunshine ,some shopping on the V&A Waterfront, and headed up to Table Mountain as it was a beautiful day.
We had a wonderful and perfect holiday
