My Travel Diaries
Not knowing much about the British Virgin Islands I was very excited about our next holiday hopping around these beautiful islands. We arrived on the main island of Tortola after a short trip on a small Liat flight from Antigua. We stayed our first couple of nights in the Long Bay Beach resort, which was right on the beach and as the name suggests the longest beach on the island. Our next port of call was The Bitter End Yacht Club, on the island of Virgin Gorda. This was a great location overlooking North Sound, many yachties use the Club and there is a very relaxed feel to the place. You have many options here - diving, sailing and numerous water sports. The accommodation is quite rustic with lots of character. We loved the place for the sailing alone. The staff were very friendly and food excellent. From here we did an excursion to Devil's Bay and the Baths which were stunning and definitely worth a visit.
Our next port of call was Biras Creek again on Virgin Goda and very near to The Bitter End. This was a very different experience and would be a great destination for honeymooners. You are given little bikes to get around the resort - which is great fun. The accommodation is very private and the restaurant, and the views from it, are to die for. There are a lot of mosquitoes here so don’t forget to pack your insect repellant. Biras Creek is part of the Relais Chateaux hotels.
Our last port of call was Peter Island Resort and Spa on the Island of Peter Island and probably the most luxurious of all the places we stayed. This was a lovely island with many great features and the most wonderful spa. You can even book you own private beach for the day! There are also three luxury villas on the island for the rich and famous or just very wealthy and if you really feel the need for privacy they will close the airspace above the island for you!
After the BVIs we flew to Antigua and stayed a week at the St James Club just round the corner from English Harbour and Nelsons’ Dockyard with its fascinating history.
