My Travel Diaries
A work trip in October took me to the lovely resort of Kalkan in Turkey, about an hour and a half transfer from Dalaman. Our hosts were “The Discerning Collection” and they showed us many of their proprieties in the pretty resort of Kalkan and the neighbouring resort of Kas where they have accommodation to suit all types and budgets from small hotels to luxury villas. We stayed at the Lykia, a lovely small boutique type resort about a 15 minutes’ walk from the centre of Kalkan.
Kalkan is a very British resort with a large expat community. It has a lovely harbour area, a small beach and loads of restaurants. Our two favourites were Aubergine and Sandals. It’s also very hilly so we found the lazy option and took to the water. We were lucky enough to cruise the coast line on our very own private Gulet (a traditional Turkish boat) and the views from the deck were spectacular. Kas is more traditional Turkish seaside resort with an international clientele, again with a lovely harbour and lots of very good reasonable priced restaurants.
I enjoyed Kalkan, the people we met were extremely friendly, the food was excellent and all reasonably priced – what more could you ask for in a holiday resort?
