River Cruise Budapest to Vienna

When I heard I'd be embarking on a river cruise as a reward for achieving 'Gold Travel Counsellor' status, I was a little unsure about what to expect!

We sailed onboard Scenic Jewel and the hosts were amazing. I can highly recommend Scenic, the service was unbelievable, the food was delicious, cabins surprisingly spacious and the scenery was stunning. We were lucky enough to have a cabin with a balcony - I'd highly recommend booking a balcony cabin as we found it really relaxing just watching the scenery go by. Obviously very different compared with sea cruising as on a river cruise there is much more to see.

We only had a morning in Budapest so we decided to relax, after a whistle-stop coach tour of the city we were taken to the Szechenyi Baths which had a total of 18 pools ranging from very cold to hot and everything in between. My favourite was the outdoor pool which was a great experience in late October!

We then had a 24 hour up-river sail from Budapest to Vienna, it was great to experience a lock aswell which I have never done before. I couldn't believe how close the ship was to the side (see the photo!)

In Vienna, we were able to visit the Schonnbrunn Palace which was a great experience and some quite interesting history involved! A must if you ever visit Vienna. We visited on a Saturday and they had a huge food market which we heard was worth a visit too! We were also taken on a 'Scenic Exclusive Enrich Excursion' where we have a private opera and ballet performance at the Palace Liechtenstein - a lovely evening and memorable experience. It was lovely to see the city in the evening as well as the day time.

The ship itself was impressive and exceeded any expectations I had. The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and varied and definitely a large part of the holiday for me and something I would particularly look forward to if I were to go again.

Overall, we had a brilliant weekend and it's definitely something I'd recommend to my clients, particularly those who enjoy cruising and are looking for something different!
