Quick and Easy Family Break!

Victoria Costello on 03 June 2008
After a 2 hour flight from Manchester to Malaga (Which is about all I can do with my 2 children who are just 3 and 4 years old! It would not be fair on the rest of the plane to travel any further!) we collected a 7 seater as we were travelling with my parents too (I find it very handy to travel with them! Great baby sitters!). It was just short of an hours drive to Duquesa where we had booked our apartment and this drive was easy enough, one straight road really.

The port of Duquesa is very pretty and small with a few shops and restaurants - just perfect for a weeks relaxing break. We chose the Duquesa Village to stay as this is a very new development away from the Port (About 3-5 mins drive). The apartments were "Home from Home" and my family had a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment over looking one of the pools in the village (Pools have life guards from 15th June - 15 Sept only each year). This apartment was really lovely and perect for my family. My parents apartment was a lovely 2 bed that was not suitable for young children as it had a low balcony, cream leather sofas etc etc but perfect for them. The pool area was so clean, being slightly "out of season" it was not full and we were able to get sun beds for our party and another family of 4 who joined us very easily, although I would imagine it to get busy during the summer months. The weather itself is great in Spain in June, not too hot and not cold so great for young children.

Duquesa is good for golf and is close for days out to Gibralta, Marbella, Granada, Mijas (Anywhere in the Costa del sol or Andalucia regions) Infact you could fly into Gibralter and it is about 25 minutes drive, however I found the flights into Malaga cheaper and more convenient. It also has grey sandy beaches with a long promenade that is a lovely walk into the neighbouring town of Sabinillas (Larger town with more shops, banks etc) We found there were supermarkets within a 2 minute drive, a small one in the Port or the larger "Eroskis" on the main road or even Aldi's in Sabinillas!

I would recommend this place for families or couples looking for a relaxing break away from the tourist towns like Marbella etc, however we found car hire IS ESSENTIAL so if none of your party wants to drive then this would not be suitable. I would not say it is somewhere for groups of youngsters to go as the only nightlife is a couple of bars and restaurants in the port.

It was perfect for our family break!
