Over thirteen fascinating days, this once-in-a-lifetime tour will show you some of the highlights of historic, cultural and modern Japan. Starting in the lively capital of Tokyo, enjoy the exhilarating nightlife, stroll down Shinjuku’s Memory Lane, which is one of the best spots to try some of the city's famed ‘fast food’ dishes, and visit the historic temple district of Asakusa area, home to Senso-ji - the city’s oldest temple.

Leaving Tokyo behind, pass through the beautiful countryside on the way to the sacred city of Nikko. Overflowing with stunning shrines and temples, it's a truly enchanting place to visit. It's also the place where your included 14-day Japan Rail pass will be activated and there's certainly no better way to get around than the country’s famous railway system! Next on your expertly-crafted itinerary is Hakone, where not only are there glimpses of breathtaking Mt Fuji on a clear day and picture-perfect hiking trails, this beautiful town is also one of the best places to experience an outdoor onsen – a hot springs bath. Takayama follows, where you'll stay in a traditional ryokan, feast on local delights at the traditional markets, explore the Hida Folk Village and perhaps stop by a sake brewery. Travelling onto Hiroshima, visit the Hiroshima Peace Park, a sobering yet important experience for understanding the tragedies of the country's not so distant past. Round off your time in the fascinating Land of the Rising Sun with two and a half days in the country's cultural capital of Kyoto. Home to a magnificent selection of temples, traditional tea houses, ancient castles and breathtaking zen gardens, it's the perfect place to end your travel adventure. A captivating country filled with age-old cultures, austere traditions and groundbreaking technology, the Land of the Rising Sun rarely disappoints.
