Key West

Key West is superb. There are lots going on. It’s not the easiest place to get to but when you’re there its brilliant. I have driven the beautiful 100 miles from Miami and it is well worth it, certainly once. I have also flown in and my favourite is the Key West Express from Fort Myers Beach. You can also get it from Marco Island. It’s a large fast vessel with a bar. It takes about three and a half hours from Fort Myers Beach and it’s around $120 return. We have stayed at the Casa Marina Resort three times and it’s really lovely. Set on its own beach, it really is magical. It’s just close enough to the lively Duval Street but far enough away for peace and tranquillity.

If you ever want to treat anyone to a special meal then Latitudes on Sunset Key is the place. You can get the complimentary shuttle boat from Mallory Square. It takes five minutes and you are on Sunset Key and Latitudes. Make sure you have your camera not only for the lovely restaurant but, as the name suggests, to get the stunning sunset. You will not be disappointed.

Duval Street is the main place here. It is probably less than a mile long but there are over 300 bars and restaurants in this street, all of which are different. All cultures and diversities are catered for in Key West but it’s all done in a chilled and friendly way. Parking is pretty difficult so hire a bicycle or an electric buggy to get around. Key West is the most southerly place in the US. I recommend you take a trip, you will definitely go back.
