In search of nature's greatest spectacle

In February 2012 I achieved a life time ambition and travelled 140 miles inside the Arctic circle to see the world renowned ' Northern Lights'. It is a trip I would recommend to all of my customers.

We travelled with Transun on a four day 'Arctic Experience' from Gatwick to the International airport at Kiruna, Sweden. This was followed by a two hour transfer through the snowy Swedish wilderness to arrive at the Davvi Lodge Hotel, situated a few hundred metres inside the Finnish border.

We opted to stay in a traditional log cabin, situated within the grounds and only a few metres from the main hotel. The cabin, which had its own facilities including a private sauna, was warm, cozy and extremely comfortable. Other high quality accommodation, either within the hotel or other brick built buildings within the grounds, are also available.

The next three days were spent on a variety of Arctic adventures and experiences which included driving our own husky team across the snow covered wilderness, an evening expedition driving our own snowmobile along a frozen river, snow shoe walking through the local forest and, best of all,a short, evening walk through the snow covered forest to an isolated hillside viewing area complete with camp fire and warm drinks. There we were rewarded on two of the evenings with a dazzling display of exciting Northern Lights which arrived, developed and spread across the clear Arctic sky lasting well over an hour.

Transun, who support all of their activities with young, experienced and very helpful representatives, also ensure that you are kept as warm and protected as much as possible by providing high quality thermal suits and boots to fend off the extreme Arctic temperatures.

Shorter three day breaks are also available. An extended seven day break is also available for those who may wish to visit the Ice hotel and perhaps, spend a night in an Igloo.

I would thoroughly recommend this experience to all of my customers, especially those wanting an unusual short winter break or to those wishing to celebrate a milestone birthday or event in a unique way.
