Lake District

We stayed in the Newby Bridge Hotel in the Lake District in January on a wet and windy weekend but were greeted with a friendly welcome on reception and as we were early we ordered a fabulous meal in the hotel bar. The food throughout the weekend was amazing. The breakfasts, bar menu and evening meals were top notch and we couldn't fault it. I have been in higher star ratings of hotels and the food was better than those.

The chef is willing to get whatever you need, if you are gluten free or vegetarian, they will ensure they have the right food in for you.

We were lucky enough to stay in the new Rotunda Room. The Rotunda is a stand alone building and the bathroom has a double rain shower and has a really modern look to it. The room itself is large and is decorated in a Roman theme with mood lighting, drop down TV from the ceiling, tea and coffee facilities and both the bathroom and main room has underfloor heating. It also has an Ipod Docking area which plays music in the main room and the bathroom and heated towel rail.

I believe the Rotunda is used as a Honeymoon Suite and the exterior is a circular building with columns and cherubs just like a Roman style building, it has its own private driveway.

The hotel is right opposite Lake Windermere where you can take Lake Cruises. Newby Bridge is a 10 min drive from Ulverston town centre and only about 20 minutes away from the zoo, which is well worth a visit.

There are plenty of attractions around the area, adventure parks, quad bikes, clay pigeon shooting, riffle shooting, zip wires and lost more, the reception area has lots of leaflets and they are willing to recommend places.

I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel to visit the Lake District, it has a friendly feel to it and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. I would say that you need a car to get around though as it is not within walking distance of the town or nearby areas.

Room Tip: The best room in the hotel is the Rotunda, its new, fresh and there is no-one else around you, so its nice and quiet.
