Lake Garda

As part of our multi centre Italian honeymoon we stayed in a 4 star hotel in Gardone, which is on the west side of the Lake.

It was an ideal location as you can take ferries to different towns around the lakes and the ferry pick up point was a two minute walk from our hotel. You can also visit the Theme Park Gardaland which was about 40 minutes’ drive away. Although we love our theme parks, we didn’t visit on this occasion.

We opted for a Lake View Room with a balcony and the views were breath-taking. We had tea and coffee facilities in the room which we love, can’t beat a cup of tea! Also the room was very large, clean and comfortable.

I had contacted the hotel beforehand to say we were celebrating our honeymoon and they were very kind and laid out a bottle of Champagne in our room, which was extremely welcomed. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful with information and directions. Also they advised when the best time is to get a parking space at the hotel as there are only a few free spaces. We took their advice were grateful for finding a space as the parking prices were quite high.

The hotel had some great facilities including a gym, sauna, Jacuzzi and spa treatments, to which I treated myself to a fantastic massage. Strangely enough we didn’t take advantage of the hotel swimming pool as we found ourselves visiting other towns every day.

One of the trips we went on was at Malcesine on the Monte Baldo Cable Car. This was an experience! You hop in one of the pods which hold about 100 people and work your way up the mountains, whilst slowly spinning!

The views of the lake and mountains below were amazing, however we were not prepared at all for how cold it was at the top of the mountain. All these sensible people in coats and we still had our summer clothes on, so there’s a tip for you, take another layer with you. Also, allow yourself plenty of time to get up and down the mountain as it does take a while with the change of pods half way up and the queue to get back down.

I would recommend visiting the other towns as there are castles and monuments which vary from town to town, but above all, you won’t go hungry anywhere. The one thing that is in abundance is restaurants and coffee shops; the food is wonderful and be prepared to pay a little more for your food in Italy.

I would highly recommend Lake Garda for couples; it is not a great beach destination and I would say that there is not too much for children, due to the lack of sandy beaches and entertainment.

This place is more for couples and friends in my opinion who want more of a relaxed holiday or people that like to explore.
