Llandudno, Wales June 2022

In June 2022, for the Queens Platinum Jubilee, we decided to go to Llandudno, Wales.

I was given a Birthday present for the Fforest Coaster in Betsy Coed so I chose Llandudno as its a seaside town approx 25 mins from Zip World, where the Fforest Coaster is and thought it would make a nice base. Snowdonia is approx a 30 min drive away too and the Zip Wire at the slate mine isnt far away either.

We stayed right on the Promenade in Llandudno in an independent guest house. The 8 rooms are very smartly decorated and the family who run it are friendly and very accommodating.

Breakfasts were amazing with local produce and plenty of food.

We were literally steps from the Pier, the Wheel, Punch and Judy shows on the vast Promenade and beach. You can walk a very long way around the curved bay and there are stalls, amusements and eateries on the Pier.

There are boat trips to see the Seals and Birds plus round to see the Great Orme, for something a bit more exhilarating you can travel on the speed boat ride.

I can recommend The LC Pub for food, the quality was good and so were the portions, following a bad experience with Fish and Chips in town (really poor quality) this made a nice change and the food was great all weekend after that initial meal.

We took the Tram up to the Great Orme, we queued for about an hour to get on. Unfortunately you cant prebook, the price was £9.50 per adult return. You can also go up and back via the cable car too. We chose the tram as we have been on many cable cars before so thought we would give it a try. Its a shame they dont collaborate so you can travel up by one method and travel back using another, the way they price the two options would make that really expensive.

If you fancy a night out at the cinema, the nearest is about a 15 min drive away at Cineworld, which we did.

On another day we visited Conwy Castle, approx 15 min drive ftom Llandudno. The Castle is probably one of the greatest looking castles I have seen. It is just the structure of the walls, there are no state rooms or interior to it, there are turrets and the dividing walls but its lovely to look at and walk around. Its £11 per adult to enter plus Conwy town is nice, cobbled streets, independent shops and tea rooms.

Llandudno has links to the Alice in Wonderland books. Apparently Alice Liddell was the inspiration behind the stories and she used to holiday in Llandudno so there are statues all through the town and you can follow the trail, which is about a 5 mile loop. We found 4 of them on our walk about but there are quite a few dotted around.

Llandudno is a big and bustling town, or at least it was on the Bank Holiday weekend. They have lots of shows and acts at the local venues so it is worth researching what is showing there before you visit.

There are plenty of shops and restaurants to visit and you can easily spend 4 nights there. It took us approx 6.5 hours drive from Kent, so it took a while.
