Luxury Log Cabin Break

Claire Summers on 24 December 2015
We travelled to Suffolk on Christmas Eve 2015 and I left home early because I thought the Christmas traffic would be bad. I had travelled to the West Country many times around Christmas and the journey always took double the amount of time, however travelling up the country from Kent is obviously the much better direction as there was absolutely no traffic at all.

We booked an early check in at Weybread Lakes, which is on the border of Norfolk/Suffolk and set on a private lake with 3 other Log Cabins. Our cabin was called Willow Lodge and you could smell the wood as soon as you opened the door, it definitely had the wow factor!

The lodges are immaculate with Italian leather sofas, modern kitchen with a full fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, in fact everything that you would find in your own kitchen. It has underfloor heating throughout the cabin, the stereo system plays in every room including the bathroom and the sauna. The bathroom was modern with bathrobes, towels and slippers supplied.

The cabins come with a full size sauna and an outdoor hot tub which was bliss during the winter and extremely relaxing, they even supply plastic champagne flutes so you can drink whilst sitting in the jacuzzi. There is WIFI throughout the cabin but because of the location, there is not a good enough connection for streaming videos.

Although there was nowhere really to walk to, only around the lake which took a few minutes, this was definitely part of its charm, all you can hear is the sound of the ducks on the lake and you can fish there too if you wish.

Within 5 minute’s drive there is a local supermarket where you could get all your groceries plus a village pub. Diss is about a 10 drive with Great Yarmouth about 30 mins away.

It was extremely peaceful in the cabin, the owners greet you on your first day but then you don’t hear from them unless you need to. They check the hot tub daily but they never encroach on your privacy.

The cabins only sleep 2 adults each and some are newer than others. I liked Willow Lodge because of the specialist way it was built and would prefer that look over the newer one. It has a large veranda that runs the length of the cabin with wooden sunbeds and a table of chairs, which must be lovely in the summer. The fence opens out so you can see the lake from the hot tub area, but remains closed in the winter to give you privacy.

The TV has Freesat so it has some digital channels, plus a DVD player. At Christmas the owners had put up a real Christmas tree with lights on which was a lovely touch.

It really was a home away from home and I didn’t want to leave, it was furnished to a high spec, peaceful, relaxing and I will definitely be back.
