Stunning Edinburgh

I was invited to a wedding in Edinburgh so I took the opportunity to have a mini-break and visit the city as I had never been to Scotland before. It’s incredible to think it’s so close and yet I’ve never been!

The architecture in the city is beautiful and unlike other cities where the pretty buildings are few and far between, in Edinburgh it is endless – in a good way! It’s good to see the newer buildings are being built, which complement the older buildings. The Royal Mile is bustling with cafes, bars, restaurants, tourist shops and street entertainers so it can keep you amused for hours.

At the end of the Royal Mile is the impressive Edinburgh Castle, which is well worth a visit to learn more about Scottish history and has great views across the city.

We flew to Scotland for as it is very quick and I didn’t fancy the long drive! On the first night we took a tour of the underground city of Edinburgh by taking a Double Dead Tour which visited the underground vaults, the Greyfriars graveyard and the Covenanters Prison. We visited some of the most haunted places but we didn’t see any poltergeist activity – although they did make it quite jumpy, which added to the fun!

On the following day we took a tour of the Highlands and the Lochs, we saw plenty of stunning mountains including Ben Nevis and many vast Lochs, we then then we made our way to the famous Loch Ness.

We took a boat out onto Loch Ness in search of the monster, but strangely enough we didn’t see it! As I said before the views are stunning in the Highlands and you wouldn’t even know that it existed if you didn’t get out of the city. It is a definite must do.

I would thoroughly recommend a visit to Edinburgh for a short break and it did help that the weather was glorious sunshine for four days.
