Wales: Beautiful Beaches in Pembrokeshire

Claire Summers on 26 September 2020
In late September 2020, 6 of us went to Pembrokeshire in Wales, we stayed in a cottage in Stackpole which had a fabulous pub 2 mins walk away called the Stackpole Inn and I can highly recommend the Sunday Roast, probably one of the best roast dinners I have ever had!

From our base in Stackpole, we could easily drive to all the lovely beaches in the area and they really are amazing, you could travel all over the world and these beaches are easily the same if not better in some places.

The first one we visited was Barafundle Bay, there is a lovely cliff top walk you can take to get to this beach, the views across the water are stunning.

Throughout our time in Wales we visited other beaches at Angle, Freshwater West, Broadhaven South Freshwater East, Manorbier, Tenby south & north, Saundersfoot and Wisemans Bridge.

Our friend brought their dog with them and he absolutely loved the freedom as the beaches were not busy at all and he was in and out of the water and the caves.

Interspersed with plenty of beach walks, were a few walks in the nearby woods and a visit to a couple of nearby towns. We visited Tenby with its colourful houses around the harbour, we also saw the lifeboat launch off to a rescue and amazingly there was a rainbow coming out of the water and back in again, I know how rare it is to see the start or end of a rainbow but we saw both in one go!!

We visited a tea room that was on the site of an Alpaca Farm, what a gorgeous setting, floor to ceiling glass windows so you can see the animals, goats, chickens etc with a log burner and the homemade cakes were delicious.

I haven’t been to Wales since I was a child but I have to say that part of the world is so scenic, for a week relaxing visiting many beaches, watching the waves and having a cream tea or two and some fish and chips was great. Unfortunately for the most part it rained, as it does, but it didn’t stop us from going out and wandering on the beaches, just take your waterproofs with you.

If you are need of a mobile signal then this place could be frustrating (unless you are on EE), the WIFI was not the best either but you can get by on whatsapp/email and other internet based communication, so if this is essential then perhaps Stackpole is not the place for you. You could receive signal when you went to the nearby towns but not in our Stackpole cottage.

We were lucky with the lockdown in Wales as it was closing in around us but fortunately we arrived back home before their total lockdown. Spending time with friends was just was what needed after our summer of Covid19 restrictions.
