Sunny Sardinia 2016

Flying into Olbia airport on a direct flight from Manchester takes just over two hours making Sardinia the perfect island for families and couples alike. Many people hire a car on arrival at the airport as it is easy to drive over there and there are lots of hidden beaches and other places to explore. We initially took a short transfer through the beautiful scenery to the small town of Cannigione on the Costa Smerelda and to our hotel - the Cala di Falco.

Other than enjoying the beautiful climate, we visited the La Maddelena archipelago on a 45-boat journey from Cannigione, enjoying the quaint town with its winding streets and local shops. We also took a day trip snorkelling out to the islands.

We hired a car for a few days and visited some lovely hidden beaches on the Costa Smerelda and admired the yachts at the exclusive marina at the upmarket resort of Porto Cervo with its designer shops and cafes.

At night the town came to life with its market and at the weekends a procession through the town. The food in the town was excellent but a must try for a unique experience is a local Agriturismo - La Colti for genuine farmhouse food with the local delicacy suckling pig being served.
