Weekend in Tenerife

Corinna Wander on 19 July 2013
As we had booked an early morning flight out of Gatwick on Friday to allow us as much time as possible for our weekend in the sun, we decided to start our weekend early and stay the night before at Gatwick Sofitel Hotel.

After a very early wakeup call we were ready to go and once we had checked in for our flight we made our way to the airport lounge where we relaxed before our flight. We arrived at Reina Sofia Airport just after midday and went through security very quickly. We then got our private taxi transfer and were on our way to our hotel in what was very lovely and very warm sunshine.

First impressions of Jardin Tropical did not disappoint. We were greeted at the entrance and escorted to a private check in desk where both myself and my husband were welcomed with a glass of bubbly! Once we had checked in we were shown to our room which was very nice, with a large bathroom with his 'n' hers wash basins, robes and slippers.

The hotel offers a full activity programme during the day and live entertainment during the evening. For those wanting something a little more relaxing the spa area offers many treatments, and for those who just want to soak up the sun by the pool, there are plenty of sun loungers. Las Rocas Beach club has stunning views of the sea and La Gomera from its seawater swimming pool, although this one was a bit too cold for me!

Although the hotel has no direct beach access you can walk approx 5/10 minutes in either direction where you will find two very lovely sandy beaches, along with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a cocktail or two and enjoy a nice meal while watching the sunset on a very beautiful part of Tenerife.

We had a wonderful weekend and our only disappointment was that we had to leave so soon.
