My Wedding at Sandals Antigua

Donna Bidwell on 14 May 2009
We had such a lovely relaxing wedding at Sandals, just the two of us. We decided to go away to get married because it just made sense to us.

A big wedding in England would have cost us the earth and neither of us had ever been interested in getting married here. Plus we have a large network of friends and it was becoming too complicated with who to invite, etc, so we just decided to do it and had a lovely wedding reception we when returned.

We love staying at Sandals and we hadn't been to Antigua before, so thats why we got married there.

When we arrived, we were welcomed with a champagne cocktail while they sat us down to book us in, this in itself was a lovely touch and it's the little touches like this that we love about Sandals.

We had a lovely villa style concierge room, the mini bar was full with branded drinks, wines, beers and soft drinks as well as optics with full bottles of more branded drinks.

The resort is lovely and has 3 outdoor pools, the main pool area is where we spent most of our time, but there was another pool which also had a swim up pool bar where they played water polo, so we did spend time there too.

Sandals put on a jam packed activity programme each day and there is always something fun and different happening each night, but after all that eating and drinking, good on you if you can stay out late!

The restaurants were just superb! They had a Japanese restaurant which we went in on most nights, it was so lovely and extremely popular. You did have to book into this. There are also other restaurants that you need to book in advance rather than just turning up. Everything about the meals were just fantastic.

We got married on the 18th May at 2pm and was just the best day ever! Everyone made you feel so special. I started off getting my hair done at the hairdressers on site at 12pm. Due to us making friends while we were away, I then went to their room to get ready. This worked out perfectly as they were getting married the following day, so I returned the favour and Tiffany got ready in our room.

At 1.50pm the wedding consultant came to their room to collect me and had the bouquet with her that I had ordered prior to travelling. She then escorted me to a lovely car and drove me to the other side of the hotel to our wedding location. We decided to get married next to the beach in a special set area, rather than actually on the beach. Reason for this is, anyone can come and stand and watch if it is directly on the beach or if they wished could even sunbathe next to you. So we had the ceremony next to the beach but had some lovely pictures later taken by the sea.

Everything went very smoothly, they had arranged witnesses themselves to be present. After they had pronounced us husband and wife, they then played the music we had chosen to be played while we signed the register. We were handed champagne and our wedding cake was on display. During the ceremony we had a photographer who then took us round Sandals to have more photos taken. I have put a few on here but if you would like to see more, please contact me. I know before we went, I was desperately trying to find peoples photos from their wedding experience with Sandals and I found this difficult, so please ask me and I would happily email them to you.

When we got back to our room, there was a lovely selection of canapes waiting and champagne on ice, which was a lovely touch.

That evening we had a meal already arranged for us at the top class restaurant. This meal was superb and the waiters kept making a point of addressing me in my married name.

Getting married abroad was the best thing we could have done and doing it just the two of us was so relaxing and hassle free. We both lead busy lives so we needed this to be as relaxing as possible and it was and more.

Please contact me for full details on Sandals Antigua or advice about your wedding abroad. I would be very happy to help.
