City break in Munich

I've just come back from Munich, the capital of Bavaria and I had such a fantastic time! I flew there with Lufthansa from Heathrow - I hadn't flown with them before and I was really impressed. Never before has a plane I've been on taken off EARLY from an airport, but with trademark German efficiency, we did!

Upon landing in Munich's terminal 2, it was a really easy two minute walk to the tube station where we caught the S8 to Karlsplatz station. It took just 45 minutes and only cost 10 euros each. We could have pre-booked a transfer but fancied being adventurous!

The hotel Konigshof could not have a better location. This Leading Hotel of the World is a luxury 5* right in the heart of Munich. From here, you can take a tube or tram anywhere around the city and one stop on the tube takes you to the main central station where trains go all over the country! My room was a standard room and while the view wasn't fabulous (the wall of the neighbouring building), the comfort was - and the service was exactly what you would expect of such a luxury hotel. Breakfast was included and was a feast; from pastries, breads and cakes to fresh fruit, cereals and a host of cold meats and cheeses, there really was so much choice.

While in Munich we pre-booked a tour to Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. I found it so moving and am really pleased to have been able to go and visit. I highly recommend this to anyone staying in Munich as you can easily do a half day tour at reasonable cost - I can arrange it for you as part of your holiday.

The other tour we enjoyed was a walking tour - called 'Priceless' because you pay the guide what you think it is worth at the end of the tour. We strolled round the fascinating churches, saw the birthplace of the Nazi movement and witnessed the Glockenspiel performance in Marienplatz.

Munich is the perfect place for a long weekend. It is clean, the people are so very friendly and the food and beer is renowned. Plus, it is only 1 hour 25 minutes from London so within easy reach for a few nights away.

If you are thinking about a short break, think about Munich! If I can help you with your plans, it would be a pleasure. Email me or tweet me soon.
