2019 is the year to head to Cuba’s famous capital, as Havana is turning 500. To celebrate its half a millennia milestone, the country has a jam-packed calendar of festive events planned throughout the year. In addition to its wash of colourful buildings and cars from yesteryear, there will be an increased number of performances from the Cuban Institute of Music across the city. The International Fair of Tourism (Feria Internacional de Turismo) 2019 will also be hosted in Havana and many more concerts, performances, festivals and parades will take place.
“My favourite trip while in Havana was to the Havana Club Rum Museum. You are taken back on a journey through the origins of Cuba’s most famous beverage including a real-time experience of the rum making process. At the end of the tour, we were also given recipe cards for some famous Cuban rum-based cocktails, including Cuba Libre and Mojito.
“After our stay in Havana, we got a private transfer to Varadero where we stayed for a further 10 nights. There we wanted to do something different something and would remember for a lifetime. We settled on swimming with the dolphins and it was an amazing experience.
“We travelled to Varadero Marina where we got a boat trip to Rancho Cangrejo, a Dolphinarium in the middle of the ocean and were then taken into the water where we spent around 30 minutes interacting with the dolphins and we also had our photos taken which we were then able to purchase afterwards.
“After swimming with the dolphins, we made the boat trip back with treasured memories. Cuba was a great choice for our honeymoon and is a great twin-centre holiday to experience city and beach destinations.”
