Some of Six Senses sustainability activities include:

As well as company-wide sustainability efforts, each resort adopts its own unique initiatives to help reduce their impact on the environment and work with their local communities.

Six Senses Zighy Bay, Oman

Located on a sublime stretch of sandy beach on Oman’s Musandam Peninsula, the stunning Six Senses Zighy Bay is surrounded by the twinkling Gulf of Oman and dramatic, rugged mountains. Designed to reflect an Omani village, this exquisite resort is ideal for anyone hoping for adventure alongside eco-friendly luxury.

The resort boasts an incredibly active environmental programme, with its own farm complete with goats, cows and chickens, citrus trees and a date plantation. There’s even a hive of bees who now live on top of the wadi waterfall.

An inhouse marine biologist joined the resort in January and she works on multiple projects throughout the region, including turtle rehabilitation and engaging with local communities to create a marine protected area. Diving hosts are also being trained to remove ghost nets left by fishermen in the Gulf of Oman, and to rescue sea creatures that may have been caught in them.

Six Senses Zighy Bay also supports several charities, including the local girl’s school in Dibba, Sharjah Charity International and the Sukarina bin Al Husain School.

The latest sustainability efforts at Zighy Bay include the introduction of a new range of timber toys in the boutique. Designed to replace plastic toys, the new range will be made with all sustainable materials and the same products will soon be making their way to the kids’ club.

Six Senses Laamu, Maldives

The only resort in the Laamu Atoll in the magical Maldives, the sensational Six Senses Laamu is a sustainable luxury resort encircled by white sandy beaches and shimmering turquoise waters.

Named as the 2018 Winner of the Green Hotelier’s Community Award and Highly Commended Runner-up for Responsible Hotel of the Year, Six Senses Laamu’s conservation efforts are exceptional. Committed to investing in the future of marine conservation, some of the resort’s initiatives include coral reef protection, sea grass conservation and the introduction of ultra-sound scanning for the reef manta ray.

Six Senses Laamu also has its own Leaf Garden, where they grow organic herbs, vegetables, lettuce, micro greens and sprouts. The latest initiative here sees the arrival of a flock of 24 chickens that support the resort’s values of sustainability by producing organic free-range eggs for guests to enjoy.
